Greek Island, 1984

A high-sun island study of whitewashed rooms, bare steps, blue distance, and Ava against almost empty surfaces.

The Greek Island sequence removes almost everything except surface and exposure. Ava is photographed against white rooms, steps, alleys, and sea distance until the smallest line of hair, strap, or shadow has to carry the plate.

Palette
whitewash / sea glare / blue distance
Editor note
The island plates strip the shoot down to wall, sea, heat, and silhouette, with very little left for the image to hide behind.
Chapter Note

The island plates reduce the shoot to a few hard surfaces. Ava moves through doorway, alley, pool, square, stair, and room while glare edits away anything ornamental.

Chapter Coda

The room keeps the glare.

The final island plate turns inward, but the white wall still carries the sea light that shaped the earlier frames.
